Find out what help is actually open near you.

A directory tells you an organisation exists. It does not tell you whether they cover your county, or whether they are taking new people this month. That is what we check.

We ask for a ZIP code because help is local. Nothing you enter appears in the address bar or is shared with the organisations we list.

What is open near you

Example
Open
Meals delivered to the home

Accepting new people. Last confirmed 12 July 2026.

Waitlist
Respite for the person doing the caring

Operating, not taking new people this month. Worth joining the list today.

Worth a call
Volunteer drivers for medical appointments

Last confirmed 2 March 2026. Local services change quickly.

Every line carries the date we last confirmed it and who told us. Nothing on this site is generated.

The actual problem

The list is not the hard part.

Anyone can hand a family a list of forty organisations. The work is finding out which three are open, cover the right county, and will pick up. Families do that work themselves, one phone call at a time, usually during the week they have the least capacity to do anything.

Most of those calls fail for reasons nobody could have known in advance: the programme closed last year, the funding cycle ended, it covers the next county over, or the waitlist is eleven months and nobody says so until you ask.

  1. 1
    Search returns organisations, not openings

A website being online is not evidence that a programme is running.

  2. 2
County lines are invisible until they stop you

The closest office is often the one that cannot help you.

  3. 3
    Nobody publishes a waitlist

You find out on the call, after you have already told the story.

  4. 4
Nothing has a date on it

A page confirmed in 2021 looks exactly like one confirmed last week.

How it works

Three questions, then a real phone number.

1

You tell us where, and what kind of help

A ZIP code and a few plain questions. No Social Security number, no Medicare number, no insurance card, no medical history. We do not ask for them and there is nowhere in our database to put them.

2

We check what covers your county

A service that covers the whole of your county from forty miles away will take your call. One eight miles away across a county line will not. County match comes first, distance second.

3

You get what is open, and what you may be owed

Both halves in one place: local organisations that are actually taking people, and the government programmes your household may be entitled to. Every line dated.

Every California county has a real front door.

California has 33 Area Agencies on Aging, and between them they cover all 58 counties. Every one is a public agency whose entire job is this, they are free, they are not selling anything, and most families have never heard of them. We verified all 33 directly against the California Department of Aging on 28 July 2026, so you get a real local phone number whatever else we find.
